India joins the club of around 40 countries globally that have already enacted the best practice policies to eliminate trans fats New Delhi, February 9 Food regulator FSSAI on Tuesday said regulations to limit the content of trans fat in all food items have been notified. “With gazette of recent regulation to limit the content of trans fats in all food items, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) joins the league of several other nations globally having best practice policies for trans fat elimination,” the regulator said in a statement. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a clarification on its order regarding requirement of Non-GM-cum-GM-Free Certificates to accompany imported food consignments, saying that the order is applicable from March 1, 2021.The clarification reads, “The requirement of Non-GM-cum-GM-Free Certificate is applicable to the consignments which are dispatched from the exporting country on or after March 1, 2021.”Further the clarification added that the tolerance limit for the ‘Adventitious Presence- AP’ of GMO at 1 per cent is permissible in imported food crop consignments.Last year in August, the FSSAI had listed 24 crops imported in India to mandatorily declare Non-GM-cum-GM-Free certificate from January 1, 2021. On December 27, 2020, the Trademark Modernization Act (TMA) became law as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act spending bill.1 Despite its name, the TMA impacts not only trademark law, but also false advertising law. The TMA amends the Lanham Act — the federal statute covering both trademarks and false advertising — in very significant ways. New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has sought replies from the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on a petition filed by Forever Toy Traders Association against a Central notification pertaining to categorising of toys into non-electric and electric, which mandates toy manufacturers to apply for a licence. A division bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh will hear the plea on March 19, which wants to get the Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020 to be quashed. The gazette order dated 25 February 2020 was supposed to come into force from September 1 last year, which mandated BIS compliance for all toys sold across India, and wanted various categories of toys to conform to the standards laid down by the ministry.…
