BIS Cracks Down on Company Manufacturing Non-Certified Electric Toys

In a swift response to a tip-off regarding a breach of the Toys (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Quality Control Order 2020, officials from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mumbai Branch Office-I, took immediate action. Last week, on August 22, 2023, an enforcement raid was conducted at the premises of M/S JAVP Enterprises LLP, located at SR No. 144, B/11, Mittal Estate, Aayesha Compound, Post Kaman, Palghar-401208, Mumbai, Maharashtra.

During the operation, it was discovered that the company was actively engaged in the production, storage, and sale of Electric Toys. However, these toys lacked the essential BIS certification mandated by IS 15644:2006, thereby violating the provisions of the Toys (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Quality Control Order 2020. In response to this blatant violation, a considerable quantity of these uncertified electric toys was seized, as it infringed upon Section 17(1) (a) of the BIS Act 2016.

The contravention of Section 17(1)(a) of the BIS Act 2016 carries serious consequences, including potential imprisonment for up to two years or a minimum fine of Rs. 2,00,000, or both, as per the stipulations of the BIS Act 2016. Authorities are actively initiating legal proceedings to formally address this offense and hold those responsible accountable.

BIS, in its ongoing commitment to consumer safety, urges all individuals to utilize the BIS CARE App, available on both Android and iOS devices, to access the list of mandatory products that require BIS certification. Prospective buyers are also encouraged to verify the authenticity of the ISI Mark on products before making purchases. This can be done by visiting the official BIS website, http://www.bis.gov.in.
