In a significant operation, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) based in Hubballi recently executed a search and seizure action in Ballari district. The BIS operation, which targeted Sri Gurukrupa Industries located near Nadakacheri in Toranagal Village, has uncovered a concerning case of counterfeit packaging and labeling.
A press release from BIS highlights that the operation led to the confiscation of a substantial cache—approximately 10,000 units—of packaged drinking water. The seized water, packaged in 200 ml pouches under the brand name ‘SKG Aqua,’ was alarming due to the presence of spurious ISI marks.
The investigation revealed that Sri Gurukrupa Industries had been engaged in the manufacturing of packaged drinking water without holding a valid BIS (ISI MARK) certification, a clear violation of Section 17 of the BIS Act 2016. The severity of this breach has prompted authorities to initiate legal action against the company under both Section 17 and Section 29 of the BIS Act 2016.
This action underscores the stringent measures enforced by BIS to ensure the quality, safety, and authenticity of products that reach consumers. As authorities prepare to take further legal action, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to regulatory standards and the consequences that await those who flout them.
