Modicare Achieves 100% ‘Plastic Waste Neutral’ Status: Pioneering a Greener Future

Modicare, a leading direct-selling company based in India, has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming 100% ‘Plastic Waste Neutral.’ Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to sustainable practices, the company successfully collected and recycled 100% of post-consumer plastic waste and pre-consumer plastic packaging waste during FY 22-23, in line with its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) mandate. This achievement showcases Modicare’s dedication to combatting plastic pollution and contributing to a greener future.

Taking significant steps to reduce plastic waste and preserve the environment, Modicare collected approximately 1000 metric tonnes of plastic waste from 35 cities across India. The collected waste includes various items like bottles, tubes, caps, sachets, and jars, illustrating the company’s responsible waste management approach.

India’s urban areas generate a staggering 62 million metric tonnes of solid waste annually, with 3.4 million metric tonnes being plastic waste. To address this pressing issue, Modicare collaborated with government-registered recycling partners and implemented door-to-door collection facilities. Through effective segregation and channelization of plastic waste to authorized recyclers, the company processed various types of plastic waste, including rigid, flexible, and multi-layered plastic (MLP), transforming them into reusable consumer products.

In FY 21-22, Modicare achieved impressive results in plastic recycling: 344.31 metric tonnes of rigid plastic were reused, 43.87 metric tonnes of flexible plastic were utilized for energy generation, and 41.90 metric tonnes of MLP were recycled, showcasing the company’s comprehensive approach to recycling across diverse packaging materials.

Samir K Modi, Founder & Managing Director of Modicare Limited, expressed pride in the achievement, stating that the company’s commitment to minimizing its environmental impact goes beyond mere compliance. He emphasized that sustainability is ingrained in the very fabric of their ethos, and they are actively exploring the potential of recycled plastic for energy generation and other reusable activities, pushing the boundaries of innovation. The overarching vision is to create a safer and cleaner environment for a better tomorrow, and the company remains committed and invested in becoming more sustainable each day.

Over the years, Modicare has demonstrated its dedication to responsible waste management and has pursued long-term sustainable growth. The achievement of becoming 100% ‘plastic waste neutral’ reflects its ongoing efforts to drive positive change towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious world.
